I just bought a really expensive version of norton antivirus, but it wont work what should i do?

I just bought a really expensive norton antivirus program but whenever i turn on my computer it says it is not being protected, and i ran a scan to see how my protection was and it says it wasn't being protected enough, and when i go to my antivirus program it says that all my things are being protected, what is this?

Try Nod32. Based on my reading, it's the best you can buy. Or a good free antivirus solution for home users is avast. www.avast.com
