i have people pc and they have norton antivirus that is more affordable for me i need to know when to install the disk so i can still be protected

You can install it anytime. If you install it after McAfee expires you will be unprotected during that window of time. Installing it before it expires is probably a good thing to do. If your McAfee includes a firewall feature you will want to make it allow the Norton software when it prompts you.

Stay away from norton, plain and simple! look at www.zone alarm.com and then also get www.avast.com far superior!!

You have to delete\uninstall McAfee 1st. After that install Norton. Do it anytime you want, there are no restrictions by McAfee on this process. Then, just as long as you have an antivirus installed your OK.
You can install the anti-virus anytime. One PC can have more than one anti-virus. I have three anti-virus protecting my PC.

You can try other affordable anti-virus such as AVG or Antivir. Don't only install an anti-virus, also install anti-spyware, anti-adware and etc.
