What's the best protection I can get for my computer?

I have been using Norton antivirus/spyware and it's okay but I hear there are far better products out there. So what is good at a good price?

There are many free versions of antispy and anti-malware programs and they do work somewhat well. But I strongly advise to choose one and buy it, because you'll get much better service from them.

Webroot and AVG are very good ones to purchase. The paid versions usually have better functions than the free versions. It really is worth paying for it.

But Spybot Search %26 Destroy is a free version, that has regular updates, and it also has a "real time" guard which notifies you if your registry is being changed, but it can get tedious when all you're doing is regular work, and it keeps warning you, but at least they have the option of it.

Spybot isn't the best, but its good. I don't know if there's a single one which is best. It pretty much depends upon a person's preference, how it's used, etc. I have a paid version of XoftSpy SE which is extremely good. Then I also run Spybot, Avast, and even Adaware, at various times as backups. I only have a single one on at all times, but once a couple weeks, I unplug from the internet, and run all the programs to super-clean, since a single program doesn't get everything. But it takes few hours to run all the programs. But it keeps things clean.
