Why my virus protection is sudden out of date?

i am running my comp with Windows Xp service pack 2 witch automatic include firewall, automatic updates and virus protection. Well the last update i worked with i couldnt completed because............ and now i having problems with my virus protection witch it says "windows does not detect all antivirus programs" why?........and also says that is out of date...

i was think about to remove the service pack 2 completely %26 download it again but some programs are working with SP2 and i am scare to cause another problem so i am just looking for another suggestion; hope u can understand me and help me i will really appreciate your collaboration

may only mean definitions for anti virus software out of date, find updates...

if program like avg not up to date, use updater,

if program like norton, subscription runs out yearly, and will need to re-register/ buy update, or only update defs,

Yeah like Bo said also manually update windows.
It would help to know what antivirus program you are running. Windows XP SP2 does not interfere with AV programs. You should check in your Programs to see what it is, and probably remove that portion of it if you can.
