Norton Internet Security question?

My Norton program actually blocks itself from updating. The only way around this is to disable the internet security and antivirus protection options while I run Live Update. It seems like its a conflict with the firewall. But I can't figure out how to fix it.

The suggestions on the Norton site do not help. I contacted Norton support which is in Pakistan of course and cannot get them to understand the problem.

Does someone know how to fix the software conflict?

It is probably Norton Internet Security blocking itself out.

Ok open NIS, personal firewall%26gt;%26gt;Configure%26gt;%26gt;Programs on the scroll box at the bottom, scroll down until you see the symantec programs, including the live update module, make sure that the internet access column is mark as "Permit All"

Wow, I have never heard of that before. Sounds like you might be missing a file. You might try re-installing it and see what happens. Good luck.
I have been experiencing the same problem 4 times since May, 2006. My subscription is not due until Oct, 2006. I had tried many times uninstalling the program and reinstalling it. Initially, it would run fine (ie. live update worked) for about 1 month, then I get the same error saying something like: " cannot retrieve catalog file.. ". The last time that it happend again (last week), I reinstalled the program and even then I could not run Liveupdate. I stumbled across an Automatic Fix it for Me feature on the www.norton.com website and was able to update the virus definition. But I still could not run Liveupdate. I am glad my subscriptin would be over soon so I could buy something else.
I have Norton and have never had this problem. What firewall do you have? Have you just deactivated the firewall program and perform the live update?
