Windows protection?

I currently have a Norton Antivirus Trial that came with my computer and the trial is about to end in 2 weeks.

I was wondering if there are any free programs that are similar to Norton Antivirus.

If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

1. AVG Free

a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)

b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!

a. Real-time protection

b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

3. Avira AntiVir

a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG

b. It's cute umbrella icon

c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses

Cons: A very sluggish update

I am sorry you installed Norton anti-virus, it is the worst anti-virus application you can get and is almost impossible to completely remove. Make sure you download their removal tool. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).

well avg and avast [free] are kinda better

they have kept my 5 win machines clean lean mean and happy for 4 years now

norton's told me they stopped supporting my winMe machines 'cuz microsoft stopped support

so I have kept the money I used to spend on norton's [close to 600] and the machines and I are very happy
You may want to try these freeware programs that have and currently are working well for me.

Antivirus : Avira antivir

Spyware : Spywareterminator

Browser : Avant

Google them for your own research. Install them and you shouldn't have anymore problems. Good Luck!!
